Potty Training On The Treadmill

I like Wheel of Fortune and have been trying to come up with post titles
using the "Before and After" category.

I am weird and I have issues to get over with. I was up early (that's like 9 a.m., people. I love Christmas break and no-kids) and I was dying to run on the treadmill. But I didn't because the boyfriend was still in the house. I don't want to run with him looking at me. At the Y, everyone sees me run. But no, I find it weird for the boyfriend to see me run.

Anyway, here's the low-down.

Something was wrong with the Internet because I had a hard time streaming movies from Netflix
onto my computer. (We don't have TV at our house - by choice).
So, I was trying to read and scroll news from web sites.
I felt pretty good actually and can definitely go a little further than 3 miles.
But it wasn't easy to keep running without something visually distracting.
Lesson learned. Be sure to have DVDs handy.

After my run, I walked Paddy Wag around for a little while.
We are working on toileting on command.
Fellow blogger, Kristan over at I will Tri  has taught her kitty to use the potty - like the real human potty.
So maybe, training Paddy to stinky and twinkle on command outside in the woods isn't going to be a difficult thing?

What's up in the next post?
I have my treadmill review post due soon.
I cannot wait to share with you what I thought of my el cheapo treadmill.
Stay tune!

Friday Night Fun.

Gone are those Friday nights where I hung out in bars drinking and dancing.
Tonight, I was home, all decked out in my running gear, and rocking it out on the treadmill with an episode of Sister Wives (I have never watched this show before and I got it to stream from Netflix while I ran. Ugh).

I hit the preset workout button for 5 miles and just went along. It starts off with a warm-up and then, it slowly ramps it up to 6mph and then to 6.5mph and at various inclines.  Now, I would never have done all that tweaking during my run because I am lazy and I don't want to mess with pressing the buttons when I run. So this automatic, never-know-what-to-expect-preset mode was great! I just put one foot in front of another and kept going. Sometimes I had to slow it down/stop to have a sip of water.  But I didn't care about time. I just wanted to run the miles. And it has been a while since I ran 5 miles. :)

It was a really slow, good run. Five miles in 1 hour. Not exactly fast, but it definitely did wonders for the mind.

I am off to take a shower and I am going to make myself a hot cup of tea with milk and a cookie. :)

Christmas break is officially here for me!

"Farting Glitter"

To hold myself accountable for my 9-miler today, I made it public on Facebook that I will be waking up at 4:45 a.m. to run 9 miles.  Yes. It worked.

I had a Nutella on a slice of bread and called it pre-run fuel. Last night, I had a serving or maybe two of chicken spaghetti. Delish! I do make a mean chicken spaghetti. So Yummy!

The run was ok. It took a few miles to wake myself up. And then, it was easy. Mentally, I told myself that this was going to be three 5Ks. When I hit the 4.5 mile mark, I told myself, I am half way done. Mind vs. Body.
Mind emerged victorious today!

So today, I celebrate a new distance ran on the treadmill. Nine miles. All of it! :)
And because I spent so much time on the treadmill cos' I am kinda slow, I got to witness this:
So, I learned that the timer thing rolls back to 0:00 after 99 minutes.
I'm proud I finally got the chance to "discover" that!
Three more long runs left for half marathon #4 training!

You guys probably know I like quotes. So here are some I'm going to share with you because I swear that RW Quote Of the Day read my mind this week.

On Wednesday (when I had that sucky run), the quote was:
"Do the work. Do the analysis. But feel your run. Feel your race. Feel the joy that is running." (Kara Goucher)
I was overanalyzing. I was too critical of myself. I forgot to feel the joy that should be running in me.

Yesterday, it said:
"Relish the bad training runs. Without them, it's difficult to recognize, much less appreciate, the good ones (Pat Teske)."

And in the words of Vanessa over at Gourmet Runner: My 9-miler today was so awesome that I am "farting glitter!" Yeah!

I ran. I answered. I drank. I am dog-sitting.

Last week, I was Sleeping Beauty.
This week, I am Princess Procrastination
After doing a bunch of I-don't-remember-what-I-dids,
I finally got my bottom to the Y and completed Week 2, Run 2 of my half marathon training.
The run went well.
30 minutes, 2.76 miles.

A number of you asked about my post on Icy Hot and mosquitos.
Did it work?
I think it did.
I think the menthol-ly smell kept some mosquitoes away.
But then again, remember, I was merely dotting my skin with Icy Hot and it was over 100-degree outside.
I had to re-dot myself pretty quickly because:
(a) I rubbed the Icy Hot dots with my clothes
(b) my perspiration washed it away

Triple digit temperatures are here to stay for a while.
I cut up a huge watermelon and juiced part of it.

I added some salt into the pitcher.
That and the ice - it was absolutely refreshing!

Lastly, I have been "old man sitting" my boyfriend's aunt's black Lab - Limit.
He is on the left and Paddy is on the right.
He is at least 11 years old.
Paddy gives him LOTS of sugars.
I don't know what to think.
