Early Bird Special

Good morning, y'all!
It's Monday morning!
What a wonder it is for me to go to bed before midnight last night? I slept quite soundly and I was all bright-eyed and bushy tail at 4:00 a.m. Amazing!  I was up before the sun. Woo hoo!  I stayed in bed for a little bit to contemplate. Finally I decided to head to the Y for a run instead of running in the dark out in the country.

All in all, it was a great run.  I didn't do any tempo or fartleks or anything. I just ran at a comfortable pace, watching the morning news show. I ran the first mile at 0.5% incline and returned it to 0% incline after that. My legs, specifically the ankles and the shins were a tad stiff. Maybe it was all the speedwork I did last week? Who knows? But I wasn't about to let a little stiffness to talk me into cutting the run short.  I wanted to do 5 miles today and did it. It wasn't fast. But it is done.
5 miles in 56:47 minutes
July's Mileage To-Date: 50 miles
July's Mileage Left: 10 miles

Tomorrow, I am going to try and do a 10K. I want to hit 60 miles on Wednesday.

P.S.: I am still working on the race report. I'm looking for official time and all that official stats. But, I am having a hard time looking for it online. Should have it up by today.

  1. Have you been stretching afterward? maybe the stiffness just means you need to stretch more.

  3. I love having a monthly mileage goal, it is yet another motivator to keep me going. Good job! Also, I'd be very happy with the 5 miles in less than 60 min. I'd love to do a 10K in less than 60 minutes but at this point 5 miles in less than 60 would be awesome for me. I think I'm getting really close to shedding the 12 min/mile pace. Oh and cool on the early rising, I am really happy too that I am excited to get up early and run.
