Random Thoughts ...

... from a chair.

My last run was Tuesday morning. So, it has been three days I haven't ran. So, here are some random thoughts while I am sitting on my chair.

I ran a good 82 miles in September. That's the most number of miles I have ever ran in a month.

I have never used any drugs ever. But I think, running is my crack/Ecstasy. I'm hooked. And I am having withdrawal symptoms right now.  I think I might have found my hobby for life. :)

And when I am not running, I feel that my spirits are ... uhm .... constipated.
*
I told my boyfriend that he has the entire of my heart. Then I held back and said,
No, the pointy part at the bottom belongs to running.
*
The boyfriend has a lot of my heart. He got me a little plant for the office that I have been trying to reorganize and revamp. So, now, while I am working on IEPs and speech reports, I see him.

I still have no idea what caused the back pain. But I have been taking Ibuprofen, icing it and trying to stretch it a little. I can only reach so far. But I did manage to put on my pants today with just a little difficulty.

I live in a small town. At the local grocery store, the staff there actually help carry your groceries to your car. I almost always carry my own groceries out to my car because in my mind, I am able-bodied and I can do it. There is no sense in having someone to load my groceries. Today, I am thankful they have that kind of service. This sweet young fella carried my 24-pack of water to my vehicle, thus saving me from aggravating my back. I thanked him profusely, so much so that he probably thinks I am crazy!

And just another thing about living in a small town. I always do the "drive-thru, send the canister up in the air" kinda deal at the bank so I won't have to see anyone. So about a week after I got my vehicle, I went to the bank and the lady said "Oh, I like your new vehicle." I was rather astonished. How do you know its my new vehicle? Earlier this week, I went by the bank again, and the same lady said, "Hi Christina. How are you?" Hmmm. How does she know my name? I haven't even send my deposit slip through the canister.

All of that makes me realized that while I have a blog and I talk about my life, my thoughts, my running, I am actually a private person. I'm ok with sharing and people knowing as long as I am volunteering the information. Can one person be totally public and yet private at the same time?

A friend asked me on Facebook what's my ultimate goal in running. I thought that was a great question because, I really haven't thought about that ever. My first "running goal" was to run 3 races while I am 30 years old.  Then, somehow, I wanted to run a half marathon while I am 30 years old.  Then now, I wanted to run a 30-minute 5K race. Running is an awesome sport that everyone, at any level, can find a goal in. The goal can be running more races, running faster, running longer, running injury-free, running more challenging courses, running more challenging races, running different races in the country, out of the country, BQing. and heck, outrun one of those really fast Kenyans.
I mean, it is endless!
A runner will always be challenged.
A runner will never get bored.
So, my question to you today is, what was your first running goal? How has your running goal evolved? What's YOUR ultimate running goal. Let's talk! Indulge me.

  1. My first running goal was to run a 5K at 30. Once I did that a few times, I wanted something more. I have a half under my belt and one coming up in two weeks. My next goal will be to run an entire half with 10 minute miles (and hopefully, no stopping...). It's going to take a while to build to that, but I have lots of time to run. :)

    Congrats on 85 miles!

  3. my first running goal was to run a 5K so that I could complete a sprint triathlon. Then I had a goal to finish a half-marathon. Now I like to finish things with a smile on my face.

  4. My first running goal was a Race for Life 5km last year. I now do regular 5kms and am almost through the 30 mins barrier. I've also got 2 x 10kms under my belt and am considering entering my first half marathon next year. There's no doubt about it - running is definitely a drug you just can't get enough of!!

  5. My first running goal was to finish a half marathon - then when I was hooked my goal was to win a race. Now it is to keep going at a reasonable standard as long as possible.

  6. My first running goal? Go back to high school, and it was to set a school record in the 3200m. And I did. Twice before I graduated. Now my goals are revolved around the longer races, and usually keeping a certain pace during a race to finish in a respectable time.
