Stirring up some good vibes

I will be doing my #3 half marathon this Sunday in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

It's a funky one.
I signed up in late February/early March because
a) I was high from runner's high after RnR Mardi Gras, and/or
b) I was high from cough and cold medication.

After I grappled with cold, bronchitis, allergies and knee problems, seriously, I thought about just not going.
Afterall, gas is pretty pricey these days and why do something I can't give my best effort?

Sure it is easy to focus on the negatives.
Sure it is easy to give up, throw in the towel, sit on the couch and eat the cupcake and bons bons.

But oh well....
If I give up, it will be my first DNS (gasp!)

So, I decide to walk it, maybe do a little dash for the water station every now and then,
but definitely for the Finish Line and pretend I ran every single step of the way.
To give up means not giving my best effort.
That cannot happen under my watch!

So, time goal? Forget it.
I'm gonna walk it. Reflect while I walk.
Think about random thoughts while I walk.
Snap some pictures while I walk.
I don't think I will be the last person because there will be full marathon going!
Maybe last in the half marathon, but definitely not going to be last one of the day!
Can I get a WOOO HOOO! for that?

Often times, we focused on the things we have accomplished and forget to look at where we first started.
And when we suffered a setback, we get so hard on ourselves.
DON'T DO IT!
Love yourself.
Accept those setbacks.
Learn your lesson.
Don't be guilty.
Move on.
And most importantly,
Come Back Stronger!

Just sharing something cute a kiddo said this afternoon while we were working on his speech sound using paint.
Kid: "My momma is a good momma. She doesn't mind if my clothes get dirty."

  2. Excellent post! I think I put way too much pressure on myself for this race. I'm actually racing where I did my first ever 5K. I think I need to remember that day and how awesome I felt for crossing the finish line and just being out there ... and enjoy that feeling again, versus worrying! Thanks! Your post just talked me off the ledge!

  4. I'm soo proud of you!!! Walking a half marathon is not a piece of cake, it's still 13.1 miles and a very respectable distance! So proud you go out there no matter what!! Woohoooo!

  6. Haha, I love the kid quote and the words of wisdom preceding it. I think you are AWESOME for not backing out of the race. Walking 13.1 is tougher in some respects (more time on your feet, etc.), so give yourself lots of credit! Good luck! I think you'll have fun Sunday. By the way, I love the pig! My next race is pig-themed, too.
