One.

I ran one mile today. I needed a run. It wasn't pretty, but it wasn't Halloween-scary either.
It is amazing what a simple mile can do to the body and mind. The first few minutes were kinda rough. The legs weren't feeling it. But once I got into a rhythm, it was actually quite all right. I thought about these few days and about the upcoming race. I stopped at one mile because I saw my usual running partners. Apparently, they decided to meet earlier today.

Words spread quite fast in a small town. Ms. M asked about Sunday night and my boyfriend. Basically,on Sunday evening, he was throwing away some wood scraps and one of the wood sprung and flung right into his eye. He went to the ophthalmologist right away (a family friend who live nearby) and the doc made all the arrangements to have a surgery. So boyfriend called me, I took him to the ER and waited for the ophthalmologist to operate on his eye. He has at least 20 stitches in his eye ball. Then, a few days later, he had another surgery, and while the ophthalmologist was at it, he went ahead and put in a new lens for my boyfriend.  We have been doing drops for his eye all day and all night. We don't know exactly the prognosis yet, though. So, that's where we are at.

So, about the race. Other than wanting to take care and be there for the boyfriend 24/7,  I really really wanted to do it. I'm going to go with my gut feeling on Saturday morning and decide what I want to do. My back is still not in tip-top condition and I was coughing some while I ran today. And yes, doing the race may put me out of commission for a while, but hey, I will NEVER have a chance to run a race on 10/10/10 ever again. So what if I walk/run through it? Which also brings to mind that I shouldn't miss any race on 11/11/11, or 12/12/12 - that will keep me running for at least the next 2 years.

Yes. I'm just going to go with the flow on Saturday. If I feel up to it, I'll drive down and run it. It is a good 6 or 7 hours drive. Gosh. Keep your fingers crossed. Keep those toes crossed too. Don't try the eyes - you'll just end up with a headache. :)
