Goodbye my friend

And so, we put Buttercup to sleep yesterday.
Her original momma (my boyfriend's stepmom) decided it was time to let her go.
Buttercup is fourteen years old. I got to know her since she was 4 or 5.  And I inherited her since September 2008 when we moved to Arkansas.

Buttercup in 2010 - after a foggy morning run

The vet came yesterday afternoon about 3:30 p.m. to the house and gave her a shot.
She is a smart dog and could sense anything that was amiss.  So, we tried to be as usual as possible.
I had Paddy Wag on a leash and we all stayed by her side.
She was peaceful.

Thank you Buttercup for all the miles we ran.
Thank you Buttercup for showing me that a part of running involves smelling the roses along the way.
Thank you Buttercup for showing Paddy Wag where to hide out during bad thunderstorm.
You were a good dog, a very good dog.
And you will be missed.

  1. Ooooh, Christina! I am so, so sorry for your loss. I had no idea Buttercup was a senior. I'm sure she enjoyed her wonderful life with you. She was so lucky to have you, just as you were so lucky to have her.

My dog Tammy had to be put down around Christmas a few years ago, and I remember sobbing for hours. We form such strong attachments to our furry companions. My heart goes out to you. BIG HUGS to you, Paddy, and everyone else who misses Buttercup.

  3. Sorry to read about Buttercup. It is so hard to say goodbye. I am glad to hear it was peaceful and you were there with her though. That was nice that your vet made a house call to do it.

  5. So sorry to hear this news. Putting our lab down was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. We created a memory book with a bunch of pics for him, which really helped with the healing process. Thinking of you today :-)
