I Am a Pi-Czarina

The boyfriend is a happy man today. I made him pizza and that makes me a pi-czarina.
We usually order from Pizza Hut. But they are always greasy on the bottom.
So, I figured that I would just make him pizza.
Homemade (home-assembled) pizza can be nutritious.

Preheat oven to 450.

 Get a store-bought crust.
Spread some olive oil throughout.
I poured a little less than half a capful of olive oil and dumped in onto the crust.
To make it more healthful: Use whole wheat crust.

Generously spread pizza sauce.

Top it up with cheese.
I'm using a 5 Italian cheese blend and a cheddar/pepper jack blend.

Then, you catch your puppy spying on you from the deck.

Time to do some assembling.
Top it with pepperoni.
Add sliced fresh mushrooms.
Throw in some heat. Add some jalapenos.
Add some Italian flair by tossing some olives and anchovies.

I set my pizza on parchment paper.
Bake it at 450 degrees F.
For about 8 minutes.

You can really add a lot of vegetables and use leaner meats.
I have tried it with turkey sausage (be sure to cook the sausage first) and Canadian bacon.
Have fun assembling.

  2. They look good.

I used to work at Pizza Hut. You don't even want to know how much oil we put on the pizza pans.

  3. I love homemade pizzas! I ususually buy the pre-made crusts too. I've never put olive oil on the crust before the sauce before - I'll have to ry that out!

  4. Yum! We don't do homemade pizzas very often, but now you have me wanting to do them again, and soon!

  5. Christine: I hope you will try something like that soon. It is so easy to throw together and it was pretty fast to put together and eat!

Al's CL Review: No. I don't want to know how much oil Pizza Hut's pizzas have. I love their pizza because it is always so crusty. But man, I hate that greasy lips feeling after eating it.

Vanessa: Just a little dab. :) Don't want it to be a grease machine. I find the oil helps make the crust crustier ...

Megan: This would be a wonderful dish for your girls to assemble too!

  6. I have a great pizza stone my mom bought. I think I might need to dust it off. This would go great with my goal of more cooking in 2012. Your pizza looks awesome!
