Product Review: PureFit Nutrition Bars

I was contacted by PureFit earlier in January to do a review of their nutrition bars.
They sent me five complimentary bars of different flavors:
Almond Crunch, Berry Almond Crunch, Chocolate Brownie, Granola Crunch,
and Peanut Butter Crunch.

A little background on PureFit.

  • It is voted by Bike magazine as "Nutrition Bar of the Year."
  • Great tasting, all natural, high in protein
  • No wheat, gluten, diary
  • Doesn't melt in its packaging
  • Follows the 40/30/30 proportion
  • No artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols

Let's Talk Flavors

I wished I could tell you about the Granola Crunch flavor, but that was the first bar I ate and at that time, I haven't quite gave a good thorough think-through of how I was going to do this review.
But I remember not disliking it. But it didn't stand out either.
For me, the Berry Almond Crunch was the show-stopper.
It's like, I can remember exactly what it tastes like.

So, let's talk Berry Almond Crunch.
When I opened it, it smelled berry-ish. Kinda smelled like strawberry milk actually. I love it.
It wasn't those sickening sweet.
It's like, you see Berry Almond and you have a certain expectation of what it is supposed to taste it,
well, there you go, it tastes like what it said!

Almond Crunch was probably my second favorite.
Upon biting into it, you can really taste the almond.
Sniff a little bottle of almond extract, and this bar tastes just like that.
Full of almond flavor.

The Peanut Butter Crunch was tasty.
It tasted like peanut butter and with the crunch,
it really seemed like I was eating the crunchy peanut butter out of a jar.
Only, I like my peanut butter creamy and I expect my peanut butter to be creamy.

The chocolate brownie was probably my least favorite.
It wasn't bad. But it was what I had envisioned it to be.
Kinda like the "other" protein bars out in the market, but not quite as chalky.
When I think chocolate brownie, I want a light crusty top and kinda gooey soft inside.
I expect it to be decadent and this just wasn't that decadent for me.

 Overall impression
I love how all these bars aren't super sweet.

If you look at the ingredients, the first ingredient listed was soy protein isolate.
The second ingredient was ground almonds (for the Almond Crunch) and peanut butter (for the Peanut Butter Crunch). All others had brown rice syrup as their second ingredient.

What gives it the crunch is the soy crisps.
Think along the line of Nestle Crunch chocolate candy bar.

The bars are kinda soft and hold up together so it doesn't crumble.
I like how it doesn't have other extra chocolate drizzle on top which makes for a messy eat.

It is the winter time and I haven't put these bars to the "heat/melt" test though.
However, I think by not having all those fancy drizzle or bits of chocolate chips in the bars may help reduce that melting possibility.

Also, the bars are between 210 to 220 calories and has 18g protein.
Fat content is between 6g and 7g.  Carbohydrate content is between 24g to 26g.

Their web site sells a sample pack for just under $10 and you will get five bars with each flavor.
At about $2 a bar, it is a little pricier than the other protein bars you get from the grocery store.
But the flavor is pretty darn good and I can see myself eating it without forcing myself to swallow it and wonder why I am eating chalk.

Their web site is www.PureFit.com.
And I believe they didn't exclusively give me this deal,
but you get 25% off your first order when you enter the promotional code PROMO25.
