Seriously ....

running IS hard work.
It is easy to put one foot in front of the another and run. But to keep running, to keep a certain pace, to go a certain distance, man .... that's hard work.

This weather is getting to me a little. Now, I find myself silly when I was complaining about how cold it was back in the winter to be running out in the cold.  Now, I find myself a spoilt brat to be complaining about running in the heat. It rained a little today over here in SE Arkansas. The sky is still a tad gloomy. One would think it is a pretty day out, but it was warm. I can feel it - the heat rising from the ground, enveloping my body and almost choking the life out of me.

I ran on the treadmill at the YMCA. Thermostat has it at 69 degrees F. It felt like 75 degrees F and the air was stuffy and stale. They almost need to have a fan or something to get the air circulating a little. As I put one foot in front of another, my mind drifted to a cold icy Powerade, or Sonic slush, or ice cold diet Coke. Why don't they turn the temperature down to 65 degrees F?  What would you have done? Would you go and ask the people in charge to turn the temperature down? Do you have any "stay cool" tips that kinda lessen or bluff you into believing that it is cooler than it actually is? Do share.

  1. It's like you read my mind. Running IS hard work, and in the heat it's miserable! I feel like a wimp running on the treadmill, but it's the only option with our humidity and heat in FL. Grrr.

And I would have gone and asked them to turn on a fan or something, at least express how hot and stuffy it is in there.

  3. When it gets really hot, I run with a hand-held water bottle or fuel belt. The other day it was 90 and HUMID...a tough run...I was drenched at the end. I definitely prefer the cold to the heat.

  4. I would rather be too cold than too hot any day of the week. I wish I had some tips. In the summer, I have the ceiling fan, the treadmill's fan, and a fan I bought blowing on me while I run on the mill and I still get too hot. Let me know if you find anything that keeps you cooler!! I'm open to anything.

No matter what though, you ran. That's what counts!!
