Lesson Learned.

Lesson Learned: Drink lots and lots of water. Don't wait.
After my Thursday run, I returned home to find the boyfriend home, ready to have supper. So I got the food together and sat down and ate with him.  We shared a bottle of Pelligrino over ice and I wished I had more to drink. Usually I'll drink a lot more water than that - a bottle or two right after my run and then, more throughout the day. But, I wasn't thinking right on Thursday evening and I paid heavily for it.
Sometime around 2 a.m., my head was pounding. In fact, I actually knew that something like that was going to happen even before I went to bed that Thursday. Long story short, my head continued to hurt Friday and now, Saturday morning, it is still lingering just a tad. I'm bad with headaches. It's like once they find a comfortable spot in my head, they will inhabit that spot and stay for as long as they possibly can.
So, lesson learned. Drink lots of water after your run, especially now that the temperatures are rising.
Have a good weekend run.

  3. I used to have it all the time when I first started running and finally realized not drinking enough fluids before the run is the cause of it. I must have gotten slack and thought I was able to beat it this time. Never again.

  4. I agree hydration is the most important thing in summer, however I still have a hard time to drink a lot during the day, I just forget about it!

I hope you are feeling better soon!!

  5. Try at least some of it with nuun. you may be sweating and loosing electrolytes that need to be replaced. nuun has the electrolytes but no sugar so you won't pile on the calories.

  6. Thanks for the reminder! I'm not as good about that as I should be and I've learned the hard way before, too.

    I hope you feel better!

  7. I drink a little more than 1 gallon of water a day. I bring two 2Liter bottles to work and make sure the 2nd is just about finished before I go on my afternoon run. Once I'm home from work, I drink another liter or so. Hydration is a key part of healthy living and running!

  8. I think it is important to maintain hydration throughout the day, but there is a balance between not drinking enough and drinking too much. If you drink too much water there is a danger of diluting the 'salts' in your body which can be just as bad as dehydration. An electrolyte drink will help here.

Drinking loads before a run will do little more than send you searching for loo stops. I've found sipping a half litre of sports drink an hour or two before your exercise allows your body to absorb what it needs and eliminate what it doesn't

And then of course remember to take on further fluid once you have finished.
