I guess I could have taken pictures of my new running route with Paddy Wag. But I was busy wrangling with her leash and busy watching her so I don't trip myself and totally forgotten about taking pictures.
I bought Paddy Wag a new harness thing. Took my pea-sized brain a few minutes to figure out how to put it on for her. Once I got it, it was easy. Ahh... We took off, with a walk up to the neighbor's house where a little boy asked what I was doing. I was thinking, "What do you think I am doing?" Of course, I put on my fun, kind, sweet, nurturing speech pathologist voice and told him, "I'm going for a walk with my puppy. We may even run a little."
So Paddy and I took off. She appears to be deathly scared of vehicles (great!) and will run AWAY from them, not after them. Good. But she gets into a tizzy, crazy, "oh-crap, the world is coming to an end" frenzy that I think is dangerous. We ran through some gravel road, saw a dog and it wasn't exactly friendly. But it didn't chase after us either. Paddy was just busy looking around, exploring and wondering where in the world this Chinese chick is taking her. We ran through the cemetery and before we know it, I was right outside Paddy's mommy's house (a.k.a my friend's house). I called her and asked her if she wanted to come outside and look at Paddy. She came outside with her husband and they were loving on her. We brought Paddy to see her real doggy mommy and brother. So, that was an "awwww" moment there. I wished my friend's little daughters were there to visit with Paddy. They always enjoyed videos and pictures of Paddy Wag.
We ran again to my boyfriend's office, said HI and left. It was about to get dark and Paddy and I really gotto book it. The run was 4 miles. It took over 48 minutes. I actually enjoyed the run. No, the running mojo isn't back totally yet. But it was nice to be outside for a change. I think Paddy's stubborn-ness made the run a little more tiring than needed. Tugging her and changing the leash from one hand to the other kinda tired my shoulder/arm a little. But then again, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world to have her running by my side.
So, four miles in the book. I think I have 46 miles left to run for this month!
I have a knack for doing things in untraditional ways. Join me as I go through life in an out-of-sequence way.

My Long Run + I hate expiration dates
Ran 4 miles/ 51:07 minutes.
My longest, pain-free run since my half-marathon in New Orleans.
I ran the scheduled 3.5 miles with some short walk-breaks (example: walk 3 trees and run a bunch). It was hot and humid. Yikes!
At 3.5 miles, this was what I had.
At 3.5 miles, this was what I had.
I would be lying if I said I looked forward to this run.
In fact, I contemplated the run this a.m.
Thank goodness I laced those shoes up and did it.
In fact, I contemplated the run this a.m.
Thank goodness I laced those shoes up and did it.
Got out the door at 8:30ish and it was a SMART decision.
Once I hit that 3.5 miles, I walked for about 0.2 miles and took pictures of my girls.
From left to right: Buttercup, Paddy Wag, Oso (a.k.a Bear, Sam, Sammie).
Then, we continued running because I figured that would get me home quicker and I needed some iced-cold tea to quench my thirst!
Here's a review of what I did last week. I think I did kinda well on the athletic front despite being under the weather some.
This week I did 3 sessions of Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30. My thoughts are:
- I have a love-hate relationship with dumb bell flies. 5 lbs are too heavy for me to maintain good form and 3 lbs are not challenging enough.
- I usually feel a good little sore/burn in certain muscle areas, so that's great!
I ran all of my planned runs: 2 miles, 2.5 miles and 3.5 miles.
- Slow but steady.
- Sometimes discouraging. Have to remind myself that I should be thankful that my knee isn't hurting any more than it was.
- I really miss running 10 miles and more. It's funny how it takes so much for me to do short 2- and 3-mile runs but it's always exciting to run a 10-miler.
One thing I really hate this week:
- Expiration dates - milk expiration dates, driver's license expiration dates, passport expiration dates, coupons expiration dates.
- My Paddy Wag. I never knew I would love an animal so much. I never had a pet of my own prior to Paddy - you know, the one that I picked out, the one I wanted, the one that I named, the one that I have had since it was a baby. Paddy Wag ... she has brought so much joy to my life it is unbelievable. It's like I can feel love with her leaning on me, with her sitting on my feet in front of me on the porch, her looking through the glass door at me and whine. Love.
This coming week will be quite something.
- Paddy Wag will be getting spayed on Tuesday. I'm nervous. She doesn't know yet. Oh boy! I feel like I am "robbing" her chance of being a mother.
- Continue with Ripped in 30 (week 2) every other day.
- Run every other day with 10% increase over this week mileage.
I am trying hard to curb the running enthusiasm to prevent another bout of knee trouble.

Drenched in Perspiration
Some Like It Hot. Holy bejeezamollie! It is only spring time and I am literally drenched and soaked in perspiration. I shudder to think what running in the good ol' Arkansas summer heat would be like and I know it ain't gonna be fun.
Five Miles. I ran a pretty good 5-miler. I don't know how my knee would react so I was a tad worried before I started. Strapped that Garmin on my wrist and lifted my arm up in the air like an antenna to try to get a good satellite reception - yes, I live out in the country. And I love my country living. Here's the stats:
Mile 1: 11:03/mile
Mile 2: 10:58/mile
Mile 3: 11:49/mile
Mile 4: 11:45/mile
Mile 5: 12:04/mile
Total: 5 miles in 57:40 minutes, average pace = 11:33/mile.
Food For Thought. I had quite an amazing start. My legs didn't have that lead-weighing down feeling and I actually felt kinda chirpy and had a certain bounce as I ran. Can I attribute it to that 1/3 of the Snicker marathon bar (Honey and Roasted Almonds) I chowed down just a minute before my run? The entire bar packs about 150 calories, so, 1/3 of it would be some 50 calories or so. Did that quick bite kinda help fuel my body for that first 2 miles or so? I felt a little tired and sluggish about 2.5 miles into the run and I was trying hard to channel my thoughts to other stuff and to keep going. I should have brought along the rest of that bar and kinda have a little snack to refuel along the way and see how I feel.
How Lucky. I was envious of Buttercup. She has no difficulty tee-teeing as we run along the main road. I forgot to use the restroom before my run and about a mile or so down the road, I realized that I am running on a full bladder. Not fun!
In Other Matters. I have read about a few other bloggers having injuries and having to reevaluate their strategies/plans for their upcoming half marathons and marathons. I thought long and quite hard about this issue since last Saturday rather disappointing run and even more so on today's 5-miler. I am evaluating the Country Music half marathon that's happening in 3 weekends. Maybe I should start letting that go and set my sight on something else a little later down the line. My knee felt OK at the end of today's run, but I kinda have a feeling that it will start hurting if I ran another 2 miles. I didn't get the chance to test it out. And I wasn't about to. I am cross-training tomorrow and will see what Saturday will bring.
I'm Thankful For. A pretty spring day. A cool running dog buddy. Knees that aren't hurting. Butterflies running alongside with me. And a safe, successful 5 mile run.

25 facts on 25th Post
Yay! This is my 25th post and to celebrate this little milestone, I shall share 25 random facts about me. But first, this is today's workout.
I planned on doing a run-bike-elliptical combo today. I was over-zealous and hopped on whatever I can find when I arrived at the gym. I started with the bike for 5 miles which took 18:17 minutes @ 16.5mph. Then, I jumped onto the treadmill and attempted to be Speedy Gonzales. I almost fell flat because I overestimated myself, not realizing that my legs turned into Jell-O. I laughed at myself and then called myself a ditzy klutz. I didn't go too fast after that. Then, I left, and realized after I drove off that I didn't do the 3rd part to that combo. O0ps!
If you haven't got enough of me yet, here are 25 facts about myself.

1. I am Singaporean...
2. who came to the U.S. when I was 21.
3. From West Palm Beach, I chose to transfer to college in Ruston, Louisiana because it is supposed to be peach-city.
4. I finally have a best friend when I was about 21 years old.
5. I like bananas that are still somewhat green.
6. I like to label things/shelves/pantry.
7. I dance while driving to keep me awake.
8. I ate road kill once.
9. I used to be deathly scared of dogs.
10. Lately, I have quit wearing high heels so they'll have plenty of rest to run however many miles I have planned for them.
Now, you wanna share a random fact or two about yourself with me?

The "Yay" to "Oops" Run.
I was up bright and early at 6:30 a.m. I ate 1/3 of a banana and milled around the house a little bit - folded some laundry and I can't hardly contain myself and I just went out the door. Never mind if the banana isn't quite digested.
I started running and I sang and I just knew today's run was going to be good. I was rather slow and was a tad disappointed in myself in my 4-mile run a few days ago. Today, I told myself that I am not going to let anything bother me. I'll just run and be happy. And I ran. The first 0.5 mile was good. Then, my legs felt heavy again. But it was OK. I just kept going.
I pretty much stayed on my usual 6-mile route and veered off a little into a neighborhood at around mile 3 to mile 3.5. I didn't see dogs but I heard them. They sounded like big, dark, burly dogs. Buttercup was slightly intimidated cos' she let off a little whimper. I am still new to the entire "dog world." Trust me, I was deathly scared of dogs a few years ago. Till this day, boyfriend still recounts how I refused to get out of his car when we went to visit with his dad (they have 9 dogs or maybe more). I tried to talk him into getting him to carry me into the house. That didn't work. Remember, I just can't convince people. Haha. I am better now. Still a little scared but not irrationaly scared. I saw Uncle B. clearing his yard and I waved at him. I saw Dr. D. drove down the road and waved at him. It was nice. I waved at quite a few people today. And most motorists were very friendly today.
I snapped a few pictures with my phone on my run. I thought I got a picture of a "nekkid semi." for Zoe, but I must have moved my phone and got the cracked road instead. Well, that reminds me I better put some lotion on my legs. Check Zoe and her nekkid semi out. She is looking to collect pictures of "nekkid semis" from all the states. Better luck next time. I am sure I will get that Arkansas nekkid semi in my next run.
About the 4th mile, I felt a slight discomfort in my knees (yes, knees). But hey, I am about to finish my run so, what the heck? I trugged along and pretty happily. I definitely felt stronger during the second half of my run than the first 3 miles. There is "spring" in my strides. And talk about a good ponytail day. Even ponytail was dancing and swaying left and right.
Rennur chimed! Yay!!! I stopped Rennur and looked down to see my timing and "O0ps! One more mile to go!" I hurriedly start it again and continued running. I didn't want to run to the driveway to the house because I know I will be tempted to stop then, so I ran further down the road and then turned back. Ran down the driveway (we have a loooong driveway) and to the back of the house, to the pool house and back 2 loops around the front yard. And yes! Rennur chimed again to give the seal of approval. I stopped and I was happy. That's my happy face, post 6-miles.

Running with a wild child.
The Wild Child. I ran with a wild child today. The usual sweet, docile, stay-by-my-side Buttercup thought she knew what in the world was going on and was all over the place. She chased squirrels, chased vehicles, tripped me at least on 4 separate occasions. Seriously? This was a stressful run. I just wanted to get my miles in and dash my way home so she won't piss the neighbors off, who in turn, might be angry with me for being that "crazy Chinese girl with that crazy dog."
The Gear. I had to wear something with pockets to put those drill bits and their respectiveful cases. My fleece pockets were filled with my cellphone and drill bits. Quite a paunchy bulge. I ran with my new mp3 player today - a SanDisk Sansa clip. I like the clippy part because I don't need to get an arm band for it. I had an iPod (actually I have 4 iPods) and the arm band always slides down that it aggravates the heck out of me. With this Sansa clip, I just clipped it onto the strap of my Garmin Forerunner. Neato.
Mile 2=11:29.21
Mile 3=12:11.83
Mile 4=11:40.10
Total: 4 miles in 46:30 minutes. Average pace = 11:36min/mile.
I was surprised I made decent time despite all these crazies that were going on.
The Plan. Gonna hit a 3-mile either tomorrow or Friday.
Gonna figure a way to leash Buttercup up during our runs from now on. I am not running with her without a leash (and the thought of that saddens me. I feel happy when I see her run free. But I know I made some drivers and a passerby upset.)
(On our way home with Wild Child in the front)
The Route. I came home after work and had to drop off some drill bits at Keith's office. Instead of driving there, I thought, I will run to his office. It is about 3 miles away from where we live, so I can run there and make a loop back. So, I delivered the drill bits on foot, and plopped a sweaty kiss on Keith's cheeks before I made my way home. There were 2 slopey-slopes. Going down makes the knees a little uncomfortable. Going up makes me breathe and gasp harder. I take the gasping for air because I will still get to run. When I hit the 4th mile, I just walked and unwind a little more. The Gear. I had to wear something with pockets to put those drill bits and their respectiveful cases.
