Watch Your Back.

Thanks for everybody's encouragement. :) I am really looking forward to the half this Saturday.

Last night, I felt something in my back. It was the same pain I felt some weeks ago. It's not quite as bad as the last time. And I am taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory meds.  I am still running the half on Saturday, even if it means run/walk, run/walk/hobble, run/walk/hobble/crawl. I am doing it.

I also stretched a little this morning. Now, I am not flexible to start with, and with this back pain, it makes it kinda hard to stretch. But, I feel this is something I have to do. Anyway, I am just going to ride a bicycle on Tuesday and Thursday and some yoga and stretching so I'll feel better and go all out on Saturday.

I think that sounds like a halfway decent plan? What do you think? Any other suggestions?
No one can talk me out of this half (unless a family member is dying. Seriously.)  I'm doing it even though it means me being out of commission for a week or two or three. Then, I can come back and use the "I learned it the hard way" when I talk to the rookies/newbies about running.

  5. Love your motivation!!!! Maybe you can take a nice bubble bath? The warm water might help to relax the muscles. They also have a hot/cold creme at the pharmacy, that always helps me.

    Good luck!!!!

  6. I love the attitude! Baby your back as much as you can - I'd be careful with the cycling too! The yoga sounds like a really good idea.

Take care of yourself! I'm wishing you the best this weekend!

  7. I would be careful with the cycling - stretching and yoga sound good - is it sciatica type pain? if so a deep massage may help release the muscle - take care, best wishes for the weekend

  9. Thanks for comments on my blog - you said access to massage was difficult = If the pain runs from your back into the buttock area and running down your hamstrings then a trick I learned was to sit on a tennis ball and roll it along the affected area - painful but effective - hope this helps
