The usual room that I usually do my runs in has no free treadmills. I like that room because I don't have to wear those pesky earphones. The TV is just there, sound and all. So I went to the other room. Three TVs, but they are silent, unless you plug in your earphones to the machines. That means I ran watching a mute morning show.
Random Thoughts:
- Brrr. It's cold.
- Ms. M isn't here. Is she at home in her warm bed? Smart lady!
- That makes me the dumb idiot.
- Just 0.25 mile? Oh gosh. This is gonna be loooooooooooooong.
- What in the world are they talking about on TV? Should have brought my earphones.
- How did I run 7 or 8 miles on this treadmill during summer time?
- I'm weak. Mentally weak. OJ and peanut butter sandwich sound good!
- Why is it sometimes easier to run 8 or 9 miles and so hard to run short runs like this?
- Let me finish 2. Just 2.
Lots of negative thoughts. Lots of self-doubts. This is not good. No wonder they say running is a mental sport.
I don't know if it's the negative thoughts of the self-doubts, or the fact that I only ran 2 miles this morning and ate a filet fish sandwich for supper that makes me feel dirty. But I feel dirty.
I need a good run to detox.
You know what I mean?
My run this morning was hard at first. I am convinced that a peer group is the best way to fight off those negative thoughts. This morning I was just not feeling it. But I was with 2 other runners so I could not give up. We have been stuck at home for 3 days with ice/snow in NC so one of my running buddies was freakishly fast today (I said we need her to be trapped at home more :-) All to say, my run today would have been terrible if it were just me. And 2 miles is better than no miles.
ReplyDeleteI hear you! I don't like me weekday treadmill runs either and I'm always glad to run outside on the weekends. This reminds me why I like running so much. Hang in there, get a glass of wine and be proud that you got up in the morning to run!
ReplyDeleteLook to the positive - at least you got a run in and the next one will be better - Keep on running
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alan - always look to the positives! Kudos to you for getting up at 5 and getting a couple miles in!
ReplyDeleteTwo miles are better than no miles, especially at 5am, and on the dreadmill. Hang in -- you'll get a good run in this weekend!
ReplyDeletebased on the title, i thought this post would be a lot dirtier (and naugthtier. lol).
ReplyDeletebut i know what u mean.
this move has taken over my life and i cant fit in any workout time.
but i pledge to u, that starting feb 1, we will do virtual workouts together, ok???
I feel your pain. But hey - you got up (crazy early!) and did it! So that counts for something. :)
ReplyDeleteI hate the treadmill too, and usually forget my headphones. I just tell myself I have to make it thru till the end of the show that is on, and then usually tell myself that I have to watch one more show before I can get off.
ReplyDeleteI had these exact same feelings on a treadmill earlier this week. Can't wait for warmer weather--and to stop dodging snow mounds and ice on the sidewalks!
