Week 1 Run 2: Quality Miles vs. Junk Miles

Ran a measly 2.6 miles in 30 minutes.
It wasn't totally easy. It was kinda comfortably hard. I warmed up with a 3-minute walk and then eased into running at the 5.5 setting (11:07 min/mile) for the rest of the run.  I stopped once around the halfway mark to stretch and shake the leg a little. I probably should be happy with myself with this run since my average comfortable pace is around 11:30 min/mile. But the mileage, the low mileage is bugging me just a tad.  I know about logging in quality miles versus logging in junk miles. But still. I like to see BIG NUMBERS.
After my run, I went home and juiced up 4 oranges. Heavenly delight! I love citrus fruits! And I ate a banana with peanut butter. Yummy!

Random Thoughts:
  • I hate fleas! I have flea bites all over my legs. And while I was driving to the gym today, I found a flea on my right ankle in my vehicle. Oh dear. What should I do? I am just paranoid about sitting in my vehicle now.
  • If I could shave 30 seconds every mile .... Thirty seconds per mile = 6.5 minutes in a half marathon.  Every second counts. Really.
  • Not crazy about ear buds in my ears. Not crazy about wires in my face.
  • So chippadity chirpy eh?
  • Sorry. My nose and eyes are bothering me. Work is being done at the house now - ripping carpets, painting walls, and me putting stuff in boxes. My allergies aren't too fun. But I bought some Claritin. So maybe that will help.
  • Long run this Saturday. Nervous. Think it's a 5-miler. I think.

  3. Measly miles, my butt! If your workouts are challenging you, they aren't measly. You are keeping a nice pace. Your post-run snack sounds tasty! I've been all about citrus lately. Are you doing your long run inside or outside? It sounds like you're having fun around the house. :)

  4. Hey good job on getting your runs in. Over time you will get faster and you will log more miles automatically :)

  5. OMG FLEAS!! My dog used to have the worst fleas and I had bites all over my calves. Miserable. Finally bombed the house and got rid of them.

  6. I love your random thoughts. I CAN NOT run in headphones, so I never run with music. It's a trade off, but I just can't handle the wires.

  8. every second does count. i need to shave off 9 seconds off of my half marathon PR and its killing me!

and sometimes junk miles are good. not every run has to be balls to the wall hard. its nice to sometimes just go slow and enojoy

  10. If you want to spice it up a little, you might want to consider doing Rebel Race Indiana. It is a really fun mud run with obstacles like a wall climb called the Great Wall of Rebel Race. There’s another obstacle called Ninja Turle Tunnels. Its time to relive our childhood- lol. The website is www.rebelrace.com
