About Pom and Half Marathon Goals.

First thing first, how do you choose a pomegranate?
I bought two at the store and the little seeds inside are hard! I cannot remember if I am supposed to spit those seeds inside out or if I am supposed to swallow them. But I am swallowing them.
Oooh, look who is getting lots of fiber?
This is this evening's snack. Greek yogurt with banana, grapes, pomegrante, a sprinkle of granola and a drizzle of homemade Arkansas honey. Delicious!

So, I'll be running #4 half marathon this weekend.
I haven't been the most diligent when it comes to training this time around.
But here are the goals.
Really and truly, I just want to enjoy this half marathon. The crowd support was awesome last year and I just want to enjoy it.
I am not going to be gunning and running a PR, but IF (that's a BIG IF), I have a time goal, it would be either
2:31:10 (the time it took for me to run this half last year)
or anything sub-2:27.

All right, gonna go for a short, easy few miler tomorrow before race day!

Things I Like...

I like my 3-mile run on the treadmill today.
Pain free again.
Felt good!
Yay!

I just realized my last post was my 300th post. :)
I like "3" - it's my lucky number.

Ok ... the things that made me happy today ...

Riding around with Paddy Wag.
I took her to the vet to have her stitches removed.
As much as I like driving around with her as my co-pilot/navigator,
I get "funny" about her hair/dirty paws/slobber.
So after our rides, I always vacuum my vehicle, Lysol-ed everything,
and cleaned the interior with some kind of detergent.
Then, I'll wash the outside with some sudsy water.

So now, I have a clean vehicle.
It makes me happy driving around in a vehicle that smells like "clean."

Watermelon makes me happy too!
Especially when they are cold.
I cut them with that "watermelon knife," cubed them and stored them in the fridge.
Can't wait to sink my teeth into these juicy babies.

Lastly, I re-subscribed to Runners' World.
These came in the mail last Saturday and today.
I am not reading them. I am saving for them for my plane ride.

Rome Wasn't Built in a Day ...

Neither is a running base.

Today was Rebuild Base Run #1.
I sneakily set out for a 2-mile run without the dogs.
I needed a run by myself. And didn't want to be dragged around by Paddy Wag.
It's MY run!

*sing: Man on the run... man on the run .....

I actually took this picture on my route back.

Jeff Galloway said it best:
"When I finish a run, every part of me is smiling."
So true. So true.

 Woo...wheeee!!!!
I was listening to a podcast by Marathon Training Academy.
Good program.
Check it out on iTunes.

 On my way back.
The sun was shining behind my back.
Look at those sausage legs.

I'm pretty happy I got the scheduled 2 miles in.
Splits: 10:47, 12:13.
The first mile was wonderful. My legs were fresh.
At about 1.5 mile, I kinda felt a little sumthing sumthing
So I did a run/walk thing after that.

The boyfriend gave me an "off" day today.
So I don't have to worry about his supper tonight.
I ended up hacking into a pineapple, a cantaloupe and a plum.
And topped that off with some Greek yogurt and honey.
One satisfied girl!

How was your run today?

Friday Night and the Lights are Low ...

Looking for a place to go .....
And I went to the Y for a 3-mile run.
Took me 32 minutes on the treadmill and managed another negative splits today.

Most normal people would be out having dinner at some restaurants.
Me? I had an uninspiring dinner.
Shrimp was bland. Spaghetti was bland. Tandoori chicken was bland.
Weird that these were delicious tasty and full of flavor a few days ago.

So, after dinner, while most regular, non-boring, happening youngsters are out partying and drinking,
I stayed home and am drinking to my heart's content!
Here's a pitcher of freshly juiced oranges and apples, on the rocks!
Yes, I'm drinking the ENTIRE pitcher.

Good thing the taste buds aren't acting funny on this.
(Yes, that's plastic wrap over my drink because I'm paranoid about having non-kitchen air/random puppy hair fall off my shirt and into  my drink.)

Relaxing Monday and looking ahead

I am sitting here with a bowl of fresh fruits - a medley of mango, apple, banana, and tangerine. It tastes so yummy - citrusy, sweet, crunchy, smooth. Lots of flavors and is definitely a very satisfying dessert. I am lucky that my parents are healthful eaters and instilled in us the idea of healthful eating and a diet rich in vegetables and fruits. When I finally do grow up, I want to be a parent like they did and teach my kids to eat well.

My best friend in Singapore left a message on my Facebook saying that she ran her second 5K. She also says that I was her inspiration for starting to run.
I am so proud of her. She started running after my incessant running updates on Facebook. She works hard at her job and is very good at it. And I am sure this running is good for her to clear her head and relieve some pressure and stress.  She can do anything. And that's my best friend.

Here's a picture of me and Kris in Sonoma, California (Summer 2009)

After supper with  Keith at the office, I was tired but managed to stop by the gym and stepped on the elliptical machine for a mile and a half. It was good. I am glad I didn't go straight home after the meal because I know I will be laying in bed, reading a book or watching a documentary.
Looking ahead: I plan on doing 3 miles tomorrow and Thursday and 4 miles on Saturday. That will be 10 miles this week.
